Ive made an epiphany

Cute idea incoming!

Phoenix being the first (and so far only) person to get Flan to say his name right. It takes some time, Flan still slips up and calls him 'Mr. Feonix' sometimes, but still? He's now Mr. Phoenix.

And of course, this is *impressive*. The thing can't even say someone's name right if they threaten it, how did Phoenix do it? Sure he's not harmless, he can definitely do some real damage, but to Flan?? This is the same man who was caught giving a piggyback ride to the thing as part of his workout, there's no way he scared it into speaking correctly.

So how'd he do it?

Well- the opposite, that's how.

He took it slow, never raising his voice or getting upset. He just... Talked with it. Sat it down, explained that while he loves the nickname, it's not actually his real name. He said Flan could continue calling him that, but he wanted it to understand that his name was Phoenix.

And Flan's response? Well it was suddenly determined to learn.

It asked him questions, practiced, it treated it like a proper lesson. Every night after dinner (or at least every night that Phoenix wasn't busy), it would sit with him and practice. Even if Phoenix didn't have much time, Flan would still take a moment to practice the name. Phoenix never got angry or frustrated or cruel, he was patient and kind. He didn't force Flan either, it was completely the creature's idea.

And it worked.

That's now Mr. Phoenix, Flan's best friend in the whole wide world.

(Phipip Grabes might be jealous, but that little bastard could never be kind enough to get it to learn. Phoenix will remain the only one with a proper name for quite a while...)
